Lin McJunkin Hard-edged glass and metals challenge my ability to translate ideas, emotions, and impressions into strong visual statements that protest life's injustices and celebrate its wonders.

I am intrigued by the interplay of light on and through glass images. This interaction of light and glass affects the colors, shapes, and textures of the images. As a result, the viewer's experience of the glass images is continually changing. While light may damage other art forms, it is the crucial element that enlivens my work. In essence, I paint with light.

While utilizing the traditional glass construction methods in which I was trained, my recent work has been freed of classical constraints. There are no tiny glass pieces cut to a rigid pattern, restricted by tight lead lines, or confined to geometric frames.

Instead, my art glass mosaics feature loosely flowing patterns of color with free-form borders. Individual glass pieces are supported by lacy metalwork that often highlights fused glass inclusions. My unique style has evolved during 28 years of experimentation with design and technique.

The fractured quality of my art glass mosaics mirrors the fragmented aspects of our society. But the individual glass pieces in my mosaics are also securely unified into a delicate and coherent whole. This synthesis reflects the holistic approach we must use to resolve creatively the complex social and environmental challenges of our time.

I consider my work a success when it seduces viewers with its beauty, while surprising or even shocking them with an ironic framing of one version of my personal truth.
